Writer’s Block WIP

June 10th, 2013 | Posted by Emma in All | Quilting - (1 Comments)

Work-in-progress photos, because I have writer’s block bad! I have three posts in draft stage…one is literally just a title! So this post is just photos of what I’m working on. I’ll write later…promise.

Oh! That’s not a work-in-progress, because it’s complete! Here’s another thing I completed…a set of “Get Well” coasters for a family friend.

and here’s a sneak peek of one of my future blog posts…

MadronaRd1

I didn’t finish it in time for the national Modern Guild Challenge deadline, but I did participate in my local Modern Guild chapter’s “Madrona Road Challenge”. The challenge was to use the fabrics we were given, fat eighths from the Madrona Road line of fabrics, and only add solids to make a completed modern quilt. I put together the top rather quickly, but decided to let this one take more than a week and quilted it like crazy. It’s a largish wall-hanging. (more…)

So sad that this is the last challenge of Project Quilting Season 4. I had a busy week in store, including a trip to Minnesota, so I went for a smallish project, something I knew I could get finished in time for the deadline. I based my inspiration on this piece, which just sold from my etsy shop. (I was sad to see it go!) The challenge was simple, “Spring”! (more…)

Happy Worldwide Quilting Day!

Happy Worldwide Quilting Day! I’ve been celebrating it with my friends in the Quiltsy Team of Etsy. They decided to make and sell items made with the “Sawtooth Star” quilt block. So I made this little mug rug this morning. I now have a nice little stash of bright/pastels with white in geometric patterns and they all go so well together, I want to just keep making scrappy projects with the same little stash! It’s a great way to simplify things and just get right to sewing, actually! (more…)

Project Quilting 4:5 Good Bug

I finished my Project Quilting Challenge Quilt early this week!! It’s not due ’til tomorrow! But there’s not a single thing I want to change on it, so here it is…The challenge: take a printed magazine publication, turn to page 28 and make a quilt inspired by it. Cool! I chose National Geographic, my favorite magazine for pulling out fabulous photography. (My dad started me on my inability to throw away Nationals G’s just in case I could cut out a good picture from one and make a collage or other art project!) Well, that impulse served me well in this case.

I didn’t finish this beauty in time for the Project Quilting Challenge that I started it for, but I am still really proud of it. I found the tutorial online here, by Leisl Made. (more…)

Rainbow Picnic Blanket

February 25th, 2013 | Posted by Emma in All | Quilting - (2 Comments)

I’ve been quilting like crazy lately!  You wouldn’t be able to tell it from my blog though, so I hope to post a few of my recent projects over the next week. Since I can’t decide what order to show them to you in, I’m going to start with the one I just busted my butt to finish today!

Upon receiving an email 10 days ago that my son’s school needed donations for the silent auction basket and our theme was “Family Fun in the Great Outdoors” I asked an innocent question, “did they have a picnic blanket yet?” It was on the list of suggested donations, so I couldn’t resist! I was thinking of a few great fabrics I had been saving for a picnic blanket (with ladybugs and watermelon…) Well, I probably should have thought that through a little more, because I really only had a week….but I managed to do it! In three days, actually! (more…)

UFO: Sashiko

sashikopillow1

I recently finished a long-time UFO! Yippee!  I received a pre-printed sashiko panel and supplies from my good friend Teresa for my birthday not long after I met her. It was a pleasant and unexpected surprise and I was grateful for it. I worked on the panel for a while, getting about half-way through the stitching when I set it aside in a UFO basket not to be touched again for a few years. Sad!! (more…)

For more than a week, Brennan had a beautiful quilt…in a room that looked like a tornado had gone through it! So we had to do something about that this weekend. His room is now fit for his new quilt and so much more!
